TUCSON (Observer Update) - Sunday, May 17, the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) along with many other community organizations and members will be participating in the 26th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. This annual event will be held in over 1,200 other communities around the world.
The 26th Anniversary of the historic International AIDS Candlelight Memorial – one of the world’s first public events against HIV/AIDS that continues to be led by communities worldwide – commemorates more than a quarter century of remembrance, community mobilization, and global solidarity. For 26 years, the Candlelight Memorial has brought people together in every region of the world to honor those lost to AIDS and demonstrate the importance of civil society, a movement in step with the spread of the disease itself.
The Tucson AIDS Candlelight Memorial is a family friendly event that will be held at Himmel Park near Speedway and Tucson Blvd. Music, speakers, performances, information tables and candle lighting will all be part of the memorial celebration.
