LGBT Caucus Says Change Arizona Next!

The LGBT Caucus of the Arizona Democratic Party is moving forward with lots of plans to both ensure the election of LGBT-friendly Democrats and to ensure that LGBT issues are at the forefront for all Democrats.

We will need more financial support to carry these plans forward so you are invited to wander over to www.actblue.com/page/azlgbt to make on online gift.

In April, there are two events where we will have a major presence: Phoenix Pride and the Spring Meeting of the Democratic State Committee.

At Pride, April 18, we will have a parade entry featuring a “Yes We Did!” contingent with “Michelle” and “Barrack” Obama riding in a convertible (or maybe in a black limo). Appropriately, they (and we) will be coming along behind the local politicians in their antique convertibles. These two worthies will be enacted by two local impersonators.

Alongside, members of the LGBT Caucus and friends will be marching with the brand new banner that will be unveiled for the occasion. And the creative members of Southern Arizona Stonewall Democrats will provide signs about the intersection of LGBT people and Democratic politics for us to carry.

We have combined with the Arizona Democratic Party and the Maricopa Democratic Committee to sponsor a booth at the festival on the 18th and 19th, so you are invited to drop by, check out our assortment of Caucus-exclusive tshirts and buttons. We’ll have voter registration forms if you need to change anything or if you can find an unregistered person to sign up. We’ll also have the forms you need to enroll in the Permanent Vote by Mail system, so you’ll never have to stand in line at the polling place again. Who has time for that?

To help pay for the parade permit and the booth, go to www.actblue.com/page/azlgbt or send a check made out to LGBT Caucus of the ADP to Bob Bland, Treasurer, PO Box 1333, Bisbee, AZ 85603.

Then the LGBT Caucus will have a meeting in conjunction with the Spring meeting of the ADP state committee. This meeting will help us make more concrete our plans for voter registration and other forms of outreach to the LGBT Community as well. We plan to be there at Tucson, Bisbee, and Flagstaff prides as well as other activities throughout the state. We now have representatives from Cochise, Greenlee, Pima, Yuma, Yavapai, Mohave, Coconino, and even Maricopa counties, so we will be everywhere as the campaign accelerates toward victory in 2010.
