Arizona Heatwave Line Dance Team Wins IGRA Dance Finals

PHOENIX (Observer Update) - The Arizona Gay Rodeo Association (AGRA) is proud to announce that its line dance team, the Arizona Heatwave, is the dance team champions of the International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA).

This new team of fourteen dancers stole the show when it performed for the first time in competition at IGRAʼs Dance Finals 2009 on February 21 in Las Vegas. The Dance Finals 2009 event also represented a first for IGRA: The rodeo association held the competition for the first time during its annual IGRA University weekend.

According to Heatwave organizer Ferdy Quezada, the Arizona line dance group had less than eight weeks to practice together before the finals. During their intensive sessions, the amateur dancers trained with and learned the original choreography of Carl Thompson.

The Arizona Heatwave includes members who are classically trained, but the majority are relative beginners who have been dancing less than a year.

The group is already recruiting members for next yearʼs competition. Interested parties should contact Ferdy Quezada at ferds84@gmail.com or Carl Thompson at thompsoncarlton@aol.com.
