The Jewish Inclusion Project Welcomes Rabbi Elliot Rose Kukla

Join the LGBT Jewish Inclusion Project for a groundbreaking four-part series taking place on Mondays: January 26, February 2, 9, 16 at 7pm.

At first glance Judaism seems to contain rigid categories and a gender binary system. "Created Beings of Our Own" is a series of workshops and classes which break down these classifications to reveal the immense diversity that exists in the Jewish tradtition.

There is one free workshop open to all. "Gender and Judaism" will take place from 6-7:30pm on Sunday, February 15. Rabbi Elliot Rose Kukla will lead this session to explore Jewish sacred texts, in which you mightbe surprised to find there are at least six different genders. The group will discuss a number of questions:

  • What are the spiritual implications of expanding our understandings of sex and gender in Judaism?
  • What does Judaism have to say about offering spiritual care to those who don't "fit" well within the traditional understanding of normative bodies and identities?
  • What are the libratory theological implications of these texts for people of all genders?

Other workshops:
  • Rabbi James Botwright on "Gay and Jewish is not an Oxymoron"
  • Canatorial Soloist Marjorie Hochberg on "Gender in Kabbalah"
  • Rabbi Helen Cohn on "Judaism and Your Body"
  • Rabbi Elliot Rose Kukla on "Created Beings of Our Own - Toward a Liberation Theology for Men, Women and Everybody Else
