Chuzapalooza, Jan. 16-18

TUCSON (Observer Update) - Bowlers from all over will be converging on Tucson January 16-18 for the Chuzapalooza bowling tournament.

This event is one of many LGBT bowling tournaments conducted across the country and globe and sanctioned by IGBO, the International Gay Bowling Organization.

Chuzapalooza has a new venue for this year’s tournament, Tucson Bowl, located at 7021 E. 21st St., will be hosting the tournament, consisting of singles, doubles and team events plus with additional side-pots and optional scratch contests.

With the tournament, the question arises, “What’s a chuza?” It is the term for strike in Spanish. This event is being held the same time as the thirteenth Fiesta De Los Osos.

The schedule for the tournament is as follows:

Friday, January 16, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., Early Registration - The Hotel Arizona; 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.; Registration/Check-in - Tucson Bowl 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.; Team Event – Catalina Shift, Tucson Bowl; 9:30 p.m. - Scotch Doubles; 9:00 p.m. - Country Dancing at the Coyote Moon Pub.

Saturday, January 17, Noon — 1:00 p.m., Registration/Check-in - Tucson Bowl; 1:00 – 5:30 p.m., Singles/Doubles Event – Roadrunner Shift, Tucson Bowl; 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., Registration/Check-in, Tucson Bowl; 6:30 – 9:00 p.m., Singles/Doubles Event – Javelina Shift, Tucson Bowl; 9:00pm – wee hours, Men’s Night Out at The Yard Dog Saloon.

Sunday, January 18, Tucson Bowl; Noon – 3:30 p.m., Scratch Masters - Tucson Bowl with check in starting at 11:30 a.m., (Eligibility for this event is not restricted to a specific day. Both Team Events are eligible for qualification); 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., Awards Presentations, Yard Dog Saloon; 5:00 p.m., Celebration Banquet, Yard Dog Saloon - Mexican Buffet.
