Jesse Helms Died

Racist and major homophobe, former Republican North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms has died at the age of 86.

In a dubious legislative career in the U.S. Senate, 1972-2002, Helms was an uncompromising conservative, who played on the racial fears and prejudices of North Carolinans. Helms was one of the primary sponsors of legislation barring HIV+ from traveling or emigrating to the United States.
