TUCSON - Karin Uhlich, the first open Lesbian elected to political office, the Tucson City Council in Ward 3 in 2005 issued the following statement on the Arizona Legislature placing the proposed marriage amendment on the November general election ballot:
"It hurts my heart that the State Senate and House would promote a measure like this that attacks me and my family and thousands of other Arizonans. I believe in the people of this state, and hope they too will take offense at the bigotry underlying this effort."
