PHOENIX (Observer Update) - The Arizona State Senate took up SCR (Senate Concurrent Resolution) 1042, the proposed state constitutional amendment to define marriage as between "one man and one woman," throwing potential civil unions and domestic partnerships, plus the governmental recognition of such relationships into question.
By a vote of 14-11, the proposed amendment to be placed on the November general election ballot failed since it did not get the 16 votes needed in the 30-seat chamber for passage.
Senators later voted to reconsider the measure at another unspecified date.
