Like A Good Neighbor

In a recent edition of this publication, a story ran about the State Farm Insurance Company was reaching out to the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) communities through outreach and its LGBT employee resource group which surprisingly most of its members are not LGBT. One of which is Dan Kalm, who is the one of the new agents for the Tucson area.

Dan grew up in New Jersey and has worked in Southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania in Ohio in addition to helping State Farm Insured's recover from catastrophe claims in Texas and Florida. When asked why market to the LGBT community, Dan candidly replied, "When my daughter was very ill and hospitalized for three months in Pittsburgh back in 1995, a Lutheran Church with a large LGBT community basically adopted my wife and daughter while I commuted back and forth from Dayton, Ohio where we lived on the weekends. The experience and exposure to the LGBT community was enlightening and powerful. My wife and I agree that without their friendship and prayers, a difficult time would have been impossible. Now its my turn, there are insurance issues that impact LGBT partners that my experience in insurance can really benefit."

On July 1, Dan and his staff will open their office at 2632 North Campbell. If you have questions E-mail Dan or call (520) 795-0231. Dan and his staff will be answering various questions about insurance in future editions of the Observer, as well as advertising in Tucson and Southern Arizona’s LGBT weekly newspaper.
