Around The Old Pueblo

OUTSpoken Families, Family Equality Council’s storytelling training program for LGBTQ parents and allies, is coming to Tucson, Sunday, June 29, 10 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Tucson Jewish Community Center, Jewish Heritage Center, 3800 East River Road. OUTSpoken Families provides participants with the skills and know-how to effectively tell their family stories. Our goals for each OUTSpoken participant are to help them build confidence to share their stories and speak out on behalf of their families, to improve their public speaking skills and to encourage their further involvement in the movement for family equality. This 5-hour training includes lunch and childcare for children 2 to 13 years old. This fun and educational event is being offered at no charge. Advance registration is required. Please contact T. Loving at (520) 624-1779.

Support Wingspan By Eating Out Now Through June 30. June is Philanthropy with Phlavor month at Pastiche Modern Eatery, 3025 N. Campbell #121 in Tucson. The program is simple: each time you dine at Pastiche , order Take-Out food, make a purchase at the Pastiche Wine Shop, or buy Pastiche gift certificates during the months of June and October, you get to choose one of 40 nonprofit organizations to receive 5% of your check amount (before tax, gratuity, or discounts). After organizing and researching the thousands of responses from their guests, Pastiche sends out the checks to our community's hardworking and extremely valuable nonprofits, including (and especially) Wingspan! You don't need to do anything more than enjoy a great meal or delicious wine and let Pastiche know you support Wingspan. Thank you so much for keeping Wingspan in the Top 40 and helping us continue to help our community. For more information, contact Michael Mandel, (520) 624-1779.

National Public Radio humorist and best-selling author David Sedaris will read from and sign his new book, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, Tuesday, July 1, 5 to 6:00 p.m., at the University of Arizona Bookstore, 1209 E. University. For more information, contact Chris Schafer, (520) 621-8475.
